The founders of the MDC believe that the best way to evangelize is to form relationships with people! This means that an essential part of evangelism is being involved with the community. We train each new Sister in methods of evangelism and Christian formation, which she can carry into whatever work environment the Lord leads her into, and we delight in seeing women in non-traditional nun roles, out where the people are.
At the same time, we recognize the key areas identified by the pastoral strategy for the evangelization of the western world: strengthening the Christian family (so it can stay together in love and disciple its children), education (and youth organizations) that pass on Christian values, Christian Education and Formation, and direct evangelization ministries, including relational evangelism and ministries like publishing and college outreaches. These occupy much of our volunteer time and represent spheres where we would be especially open to opening new works.
Our primary ministry is prayer, which is the inspiration and the powerhouse for the success of everything else. I treasure participating in a couple prayer groups. Some of the ministries I am presently involved in right now include: my job (as a health care provider), training Lay Catechists, teaching Sunday School, publishing the Anglican Missionary Tract Project and some Christian Education resources, the Diocese of Quincy's Ministry to Homeschoolers, and opening our convent, Divine Compassion House, as a place of retreat. Occassionally, I accept invitations to do teaching missions or Quiet Days, provide spiritual direction or emotional healing prayer.
There is no end of the work I must turn down and, thus, no end to the possibilities for service for any woman seeking to join this community.
